Muss & Turner's

Jul14

Every town should have a place like Muss and Turner's.  It is like a cross between a neighborhood deli, an upscale market and your favorite bistro.  If you love good food, you will love Muss & Turner's.  Located in the Smyrna-Vinings area, I do not get there nearly as much as I want to, but when I go, I am dreaming about my meal there weeks later.

It is always hard to decide what to order there, because everything on the menu sounds so delicious.

This visit was no exception.  Luckily, we were greeted by the sandwich specials board, and we knew immediately what to order.  There was absolutely no debate once we saw the Jewish Texan.  I eat red meat about 4 times a year, and I was making room on the calendar for this sandwich!  We also ordered the Shrimp Scampi Sandwich, and a side of fries.  You can check out the entire menu at their website here.

On the left is what you see when you enter the restaurant.  The counter where you order, is all the way on the left, and there is plenty of seating indoors, and outdoors.  There are at least two cases of their amazing desserts, that rival any of the best bakeries in town.  Every single time we eat at M & T, I get at least 3 cookies (and these are not small cookies, they are larger than my entire hand!).

While we wait for our food to arrive, I like to browse around the little gourmet, specialty market.  They carry wine, condiments, snacks, candies, granola, cheeses, olives and tons of other goodies.  Phil likes to chat with the owners, shown here with Phil...Ryan Turner and Todd Mussman.  Hmmm..me shop, and Phil socialize?  How surprising...

After a short wait, our sandwiches and fries arrived.

Here is the 'Jewish Texan'.  OMG!!!  All I can say is that this is the best damn sandwich I have ever eaten in my life....and I love sandwiches!  It was perfect....a little spicy, a little tangy, nice and saucy, crunchy, hot...you got every flavor you could possibly want, all in one bite.   There is no way this sandwich will not satisfy.  It is three days later, and I am still thinking about how amazing this sandwich was, and if M & T will ever do it again.

I hate having my photo taken, while I am stuffing my mouth with a huge sandwich.  I also had just worked out before we went to lunch at M & T.  In this photo,  I am post-workout, with no make-up, my hair in a pony tail, and sorely in need of a shower, but I allowed my photo to be taken eating this amazing sandwich, to show everyone how much I enjoyed my lunch!  My guess is, you will never see a photo of me, eating a brisket sandwich this good again!

We also ordered the Shrimp Scampi sandwich.

It was a very yummy sandwich, but it was a bit too much bread for my taste.  Once I took off the top layer of bread, and ate it as an open-face sandwich, I enjoyed it much more.

The fries are amazing, and come in a huge basket that is enough to share with several people.  We had both kids with us, and a friend, and the basket of fries was enough for all five of us to share.

Let's not forget dessert....my absolute favorite part of any meal.  Not only do M & T have fabulous cookies, they also have other desserts as well.  When we were there, I saw creme brulee, panna cotta, carrot cake, cheesecake and several others.  Absolutely mouthwatering!

We ordered three desserts.  On the top left is the Whoppie Pie, which is like a grown-up version of a Devil Dog.  The next dessert is a brownie, which is moist, rich, full of chocolate flavor and out of this world.  The final dessert was, of course, one of their awesome cookies.  My favorite is their Chocolate Chip Cookie with no nuts.  The only way to describe it, is as The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie In the World.  I don't know how Phil got the recipe for their cookie, but he did, and now Phil makes the best chocolate chip cookies in the world as well.  These cookies are THAT good!

M & T is one of those restaurant's you walk in to and instantly feel comfortable in.  I am just as happy coming here for lunch with my kids, as I am coming here for 'date night' dinner (yes..they serve dinner, and have a full dinner menu).  It is worth the drive. I just wish they would open a restaurant in Sandy Springs.
